Korean Jujube Tea (Daechu-cha) Recipe & Health Benefits
Hello food lovers and tea enthusiasts!
Hello food lovers and tea enthusiasts! Welcome back to Jeongmi Spoon & Sip.
When the weather gets chilly, or you feel your energy draining, what is your go-to comfort drink? Today, I want to introduce you to a hidden gem of Korean traditional wellness: Jujube Tea, known as Daechu-cha (대추차) in Korea.
This isn't just a regular tea; it’s a thick, naturally sweet, and deeply comforting herbal tonic that feels like a warm hug in a cup. Plus, it is completely caffeine-free and sugar-free!
In this post, I’ll share the authentic Korean jujube tea recipe and explore why this magic fruit has been loved in Korea for centuries.
🍒 What is Jujube (Korean Red Date)?
Before we dive into the recipe, let's talk about the star ingredient. Jujubes, often called Korean red dates, are small, round fruits that turn deep red and wrinkly when dried.
In traditional Korean medicine, jujubes are highly prized for their warming properties. They are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, and essential minerals. The best part? When you boil them for a long time, they release an intense, natural sweetness—no added sugar needed!

Why should you add jujube tea to your daily routine? Here are some incredible health benefits:
Promotes Better Sleep & Relieves Anxiety: Jujubes contain natural compounds that calm the nervous system. If you suffer from insomnia, a warm cup of daechu-cha before bed works wonders.
Boosts Immune System: High in Vitamin C and antioxidants, it helps guard your body against seasonal colds and flu.
Warms Up the Body & Improves Digestion: It improves blood circulation, instantly warming your hands and feet while soothing an upset stomach.
Anti-Aging Properties: The rich antioxidants help to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out.
👩🍳 Authentic Korean Jujube Tea Recipe (Step-by-Step)
Making traditional daechu-cha at home is incredibly simple, though it requires a little patience. The secret is to let it simmer until the fruit becomes completely soft.
Ingredients:
Dried Korean jujubes (red dates): 20–25 pieces
Water: 2 liters (approx. 8 cups)
Optional toppings: Pine nuts, sliced dried jujubes, or pumpkin seeds.
Instructions:
- Wash the Jujubes: Gently scrub the dried jujubes in cold water to remove any dust trapped in the wrinkles. Rinse thoroughly.
- Prep the Fruit: Slicing some of the jujubes to remove the pits helps draw out the flavor faster. (Be sure to set a few aside for pretty flower-shaped garnishes later!)

- Simmer to Perfection: Place the water and jujubes into a large pot or ceramic teapot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 1 to 1.5 hours. You will notice the water turning into a beautiful, rich dark brown color.

- Mash and Strain (The Pro-Tip): Once the jujubes are completely soft and mushy, use a spoon or masher to crush them directly in the pot. Then strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve, pressing down on the pulp to extract all the thick, sweet goodness.
- Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot, rich tea into a beautiful ceramic cup. Top it with a few pine nuts and sliced jujubes. Enjoy!
